the day before

It’s quite eerie living down the road from Paradise. The helicopters take off and land in the oval across the street. There are more aircraft movements but no immediate smoke from the bushfires, raging in the gusty winds. Once the prevailing winds reach the mountains, their behaviour, in terms of direction, can change back and forth as they race through the valleys. Huge, ominous clouds of smoke compete for space and the next few hours will, maybe, make the difference between a disaster or a close call for the necklace of townships which lie along the ridges. It’s hot and dry. I’ve come inside after a practice/play of a few songs. I’m playing in the semi-final of the acoustic/roots show at the Gearins Hotel tomorrow night. The new song ‘Lets get it right’ got a judges commendation in BLU FM’s recent music awards competition which is awesome as the lyrics are a bit off-beat. So I’ll play my few songs first, then walk across to Tres Elies for the awards night... meanwhile... back at the bushfire...it’s quite eerie living down the road from Paradise.....
